third year, literature student

21-year-old Akaashi Keiji, currently in his third year in uni as a literature student, is more or less an enigma.

Most people who know him at the surface level would say that he was bright. Smart and quiet, but not snobbish nor antisocial. He's usually seen around study halls and libraries by himself, either annotating on his books or writing on his leather-bound journal.

Most of the people with the same course as him know him as an active member of the university's underground literature circle. He is actually the author of an overnight best-selling collection of poems named "Moonrise & Other Poems", but as he's written under a pen name (YΕ«gen), the work isn't linked to him - a fact that he likes. Only the higher-ups in the literature circle know of YΕ«gen's true identity.

What the student body keeps as an open secret, though, is that Akaashi Keiji is a social butterfly especially at night. Flitting through parties at least once a week, drink in hand (usually a Jack and Coke) and a cigarette in between his lips (Marlboro Reds), he comes off as extremely flirty especially when drunk and can usually be seen on the dance floor, pressed against at least one body the whole evening. Lips may lock and hands may wander, but Keiji never lets anyone take him home for the night, which also makes him very sought after especially when he's not sober.

The truth of the matter is that Akaashi Keiji feels highly insecure in many aspects of his life and seeks validation by going with the flow. In the daytime, Keiji tries to be the smart, capable and responsible classmate anyone would want to have as a groupmate or be like. And when the sun sets and the music starts playing, Keiji lets the night flow around him and follow anyone who pulls his hand.

Behind closed doors, Keiji is low-maintenance and is primarily lost with who he is and what he actually wants. The only thing he does that he's 100% sure of is write -- and even then, impostor syndrome and the crippling fear of being a one-hit-wonder renders him immobile at times.

β€£ current concerns:
-- Annotating William Burroughs' "Junky" seems to be taking longer that it usually does.
-- He should have his writing journal refilled with new pages because it's almost full.
-- His readings are piling up but he has fickle motivation to finish them.

Akaashi Keiji, alias "Aka-san"/
"Rufous" (24-25)

negotiator/consigliere; affiliated with the Fukurodani Family

Akaashi Keiji's origin story as to how he came into the Mafia world is a story full of bloodshed. At the tender age of 13, he was orphaned when his entire family was massacred by a rival Family in the hopes of challenging Fukurodani -- something he wasn't even aware his family was connected to. The Head of the Fukurodani Family, his distant uncle, adopted him under his wing as the sole survivor of the incident, and the rival Family had been squashed only six months after.

Under his uncle's tutelage, he began to weave himself into the narrative of crime and had set up to work in the Family at the cusp of him turning 18. His uncle had set him to study law as he had a penchant of talking and closing agreements, often to the family's benefit.

To the outside world, Akaashi Keiji was a polite and quiet young man, excelling in his classes when he studied law at university before going abroad to work at a private firm.

However, in the lower ranks of the Fukurodani Family, he is more knownas "Aka-san" or "Red-san", a title most feared. He is usually tasked with negotiating and closing agreements between the Family and businesses, both locally and internationally.

When he was sent to Europe on the guise of working at a private international firm, he was actually tasked to bring home shipments upon shipments of weapons for the Family's personal use and for private clientele, all unregistered with the Ministry of Defense. Since then, however, he has been called back to Headquarters to handle business dealings locally.

Back in Tokyo, the Fukurodani Family fronts as Mori Law, an elite firm that primarily handles the wealthy and the powerful. Akaashi Keiji is known as a favorite among his colleagues and peers, primarily for his good standing and favor with the executives as well as his talent at shutting things down in his favor.

In negotiations, Keiji is usually given free reign to do whatever he likes so long as it's all a means to an end. And while he doesn't like grand shows of violence and torture, he will resort to bodily harm and blackmail if need be. And when worse comes to worst, Keiji will not hesitate to resort to murder.

His nickname as "Red-san" may come from his last name ('Aka' meaning 'red' or 'crimson' in Japanese), but most lower ranks call him that, associating him with his custom-made two-toned leather gloves (black on the backside, and wine-red on the palm side) - which he usually only wears when he's about to kill somebody.

Apart from that, he usually wears black leather gloves on his hands and a polite smile on his face on normal days.

Keiji would say that doesn't actively smoke -- but he does right after a deal is closed or someone has been executed with his own hands.

β€£current concerns:
-- Although he knows how to drive, he usually gets lost in his own thoughts about different things in his agenda, which is why he gets driven around by Washio, making him feel like a child needing supervision sometimes.
-- He doesn't really mind people calling him by "Akaashi-san"/"Akaashi", but most members still refer to him as "Aka-san" or "Red-san" because they feel intimidated by his very presence.
-- He's running low on his imported cigarettes and the shipment carrying it has been delayed.
